Vodaphone is about to trial a new project to reduce the number of spam SMS messages that their customers receive. Text spam, especially in the UK, is becoming a huge problem.
Now Vodaphone is asking anyone who receives such messages to forward it to them on a special number – 87726, which spells out vSpam on a phone. Before this, Vodaphone (along with most other networks) advised users to call ICSTIS directly if they had a problem with unsolicited texts.
According to the theregister.co.uk, 63% of mobile users responded to a survey to say that spam texts were a problem, and 85% of them said that controls should be put in place to control it. ICSTIS has already received 3,500 complaints in the 6 months.
Let’s hope that other networks do something similar very soon.
