The new legislation kicks in on December 1st 2003 in the UK which makes it illegal to use a hand-held phone whilst driving.
Already though, we have confusion. Some police forces have said that wired personal hands-free kits are also illegal, whilst the media has also been casting doubt on plug-n-go handsfree kits, bluetooth headsets and even fully wired car kits… so what’s the truth??!
Well, for a definitive answer, and the facts, click here.
An interesting truth is…
“Question – Is hands-free phone equipment allowed?
Provided that a phone can be operated without holding it, then hands-free equipment is not prohibited by the new regulation.
And pushing buttons on a phone while it is in a cradle or on the steering wheel or handlebars of a motorbike for example is not covered by the new offence, provided you don’t hold the phone.”
So as long as you’re not holding the phone, you should be ok.
