The UK has now got its first “Push To Talk” service, courtesy of Orange. Although at present it’s only available on the Treo 600 handset, it’s a great new service which will be rolled out to other handsets soon (no news on Windows Mobile ones though).
PushToTalk (which is also known as “push-to-talk over cellular (PoC)” or “TalkNow” on Orange) will basically turn your mobile phone into a walkie-talkie. It’s like a voice version of a text message. You record a message, then send it out to a ‘buddy’ or a group of “buddies” in a conference, up to 10.
