I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on a MiTAC Mio 8390 handset for a short while. The Mio is on sale in Taiwan and elsewhere and is now being distributed in the UK by AGBGlobal.com. The Mio runs Windows Mobile 2003 on a very nippy Intel Delhart (ARM PXA262) 200Mhz processor and has a few added surprises such as a display brightness control and it’ll play any MP3 on SD card or internal memory as your ringtone!
I’ve only been playing this for a small part of today, and although there’s a lack of bluetooth it’s incredibly quick and many videos I’ve put onto it’s SD card play extremely smoothly – these are videos that are quite high bit rate and sometimes judder on other handsets. It’s got a version of MMS, video recorder, caller ID and camera software which us SPV / Audiovox SMT 5600 users wouldn’t instantly recognise, but they work extremely well and the refresh on the camera is fantastic.
It’s a solid handset with bold numbers and well set-out buttons. It works well and I’m very impressed by it. A full review will come here soon, and if AGB will let me I’ll be bringing this along to the MoDaCo Winter Meet, so you can see if at first hand and I can pass your comments and queries onto AGB. Don’t forget that you can come along – the MoDaCo Meet is in Birmingham, UK on Novermber 6th – that’s only a few days away, so get your name down!!
More details including a full review on this nice looking clamshell handset are coming soon, but you can read on to get full high quality pictures.
