AGH! Right, I’ve had enough of this. Today has been completely wasted due to spammers. At work I’ve had a server attacked by a hacker who was trying to bounce requests elsewhere for those fake ebay / paypal login screens, I’ve come home and had about two dozen spam emails from my own contact form and the feedback forum is constantly being used by spammers to adverise their crap.
It’s unbelievably annoying. Both I and w411y have to spend time clearing up the rubbish posts in the forum, then I have to put up with the v14gra emails sent through the contact form – even though it’s specifically designed to only allow messages to go to me, they still do it! Plus at work I’ve spent about 4 hours fiddling about with httpd.conf files and firewalls… All this so they can get their precious clicks. Someone somewhere must be getting incredibly rich off all this, and it’s not all from the USA of late – I’m seeing more and more from Japan and Russia especially, so perhaps that multi-millionaire Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is to blame, who knows.
Either way I’ve now implemented the “CAPTCHA” system on both the contact form and feedback forum registration – this shows the computer-generated image that you have to type in. Although it won’t totally stop the determined spammer it’ll at least be another wall for them to jump over.
