Microsoft Silverlight has now been officially launched. Microsoft call it a “cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of .NET based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web”. In our language that simply means, “an alternative to Adobe Flash”. Microsoft are hoping that it will do to Flash what Soapbox did to YouTube (err.. OK.. Perhaps a bit more than that).
So all good news then yes? Well, unfortunately not for us Windows Mobile users. The latest we know is this blog post from Rob Unoki stating, “We are currently in our planning and early development stages for bringing Silverlight to the mobile world”. Humph. 🙁 Still, there’s a demo of how it will look in this YouTube video (oh, the irony).
