We’re getting almost daily updates on the “Will the HD2 upgrade to Windows Phone 7” question. Most responses so far have been “it’s up to the hardware manufacturer” but now Natasha Kwan, General Manager for Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business in the Asia-Pacific region, has gone as far as saying that the HD2 “doesn’t qualify because it doesn’t have the three buttons”.
Australian magazine APC also states that it’s not just the extra buttons. Tony Wilkinson, Business Operations Director for Microsoft Australia has also told the publication that “there are some hardware components that the HD doesn’t have” and Natasha Kwan has also stated that “the current phones we have right now will not be upgradable”.
So, bad news then. It seems that every Windows Mobile currently on the market just won’t be upgradeable to Windows Phone 7 Series. That is, unless someone at xda-developers saves us.
