We kinda knew this already, but now Microsoft have confirmed. Those apps you’re running on your Windows Mobile just won’t work on Windows Phone 7 Series. There is no backward compatibility and Charlie Kindel states…
“To be clear, we will continue to work with our partners to deliver new devices based on Windows Mobile 6.5 and will support those products for many years to come, so it’s not as though one line ends as soon as the other begins.”
Microsoft aren’t closing the door on Windows Mobile 6.5.x, but all eyes will no doubt turn to Windows Phone 7 Series. Silverlight and XNA will be used to build apps on the new platform and we’re hoping that there’s huge incentives for developers. The current Windows Marketplace is still struggling with a limited amount of applications and games. Windows Phone 7 Series needs to hit the ground running later this year – the on-board shop needs to be brimming with choice.
