Mozilla has just put the brakes on any further Windows Mobile development. This means that Firefox won’t now be coming to Windows Mobile any time soon. Mozilla also state that work will also stop on a Windows Phone 7 version as…
“Microsoft has unfortunately decided to close off development to native applications. Because of this, we won’t be able to provide Firefox for Windows Phone 7 at this time.”
They are prepared to come back to Windows Phone 7 at a later date when / if a native development kit becomes available, stating..
“We know that the underlying platform for Windows Phone 7 is Windows CE 6, which is a big step up from the kernel used by Windows Mobile 6.5.”
However, for now Mozilla are concentrating their efforts on developing Firefox for Android and Maemo.
