Last month the BBC announced that official iPlayer and news / sports apps would be available for Android. This will now be postponed with the BBC Trust deciding to take a look at the business case.
The Trust has been urged to block plans to launch a news service on the iPhone and Android platforms because it may “distort” the market. Newspapers have already started charging for online content and now the Newspaper Publishers Association (NPA) have accused the BBC of “barging into the market” and say that the BBC apps will harm commercial news firms and their apps.
The “BeebPlayer” and several BBC news widgets and apps are already available for Android from other sources – have a look in the Android Market.
