When Windows Phone 7 was announced it seemed to signal the end of HTC’s involvement with the GUI. The Windows Phone 7 interface, from what we understood at the time, was to be familiar and identical throughout all Windows Phones. Things still seem to be pretty much the same, although HTC have again stated – as they did to us in February – that they will be able to “innovate” and make the Windows Phone 7 experience individual to HTC handsets. HTC’s Drew Bamford states..
“We won’t be able to replace as much of the core Windows Phone experience, but we will augment it.”
There’s also good news about Android. You may remember rumours that the next big version of the OS would see the death of custom UI’s. We’d heard previously that this rumour was false, but HTC have also chipped in…
“Google may focus more on improving the user interface on the stock Android [software], but I don’t think they’ll preclude manufacturer customization.”
