The free version of Shazam has now been updated for Android users. Version 2.1 brings the ability to tag without coverage and a number of bug fixes.
The free version allows 5 tags per month, but the paid-for version (Shazam Encore) allows unlimited music tagging and extra features. If you’ve not tried or heard about Shazam before, it’s a simple way to identify music just by holding your phone near to a speaker. If you’re in a pub or shop, just start Shazam, hold it near the music and it’ll tell you what track it is, then you can buy it from Amazon, watcjh the YouTube video, share it on Facebook, Twitter, text or email.
The new version will let you tag music, even when you have no coverage – ideal for clubbers. It’ll grab the track later when you do have coverage, so you can go and buy all those tracks the next day. The tags won’t count towards your 5-per-month unless they’ve been successful.
