Facebook have just updated their Android app on the market. New improvements include the addition of deals, chat and push notifications. Its great to see the Chat functionality finally being added, especially as iOS has had this feature for some time already.
Facebook deals provides access to savings and offers from nearby businesses and works in conjunction with Places. Finally push notifications only works on devices running 2.2 or higher.
All in all not a bad update.

I’ve had chat on my Facebook app for quite a long time now – it’s definitely not new in this release.
…but notifications (at bottom in the app) don’t work anymore here (htc desire)
“New improvements include the addition of deals” – IE we now get Ads?
Thanks for this.
There is indeed a new Facebook App but it doesn’t contain the above because all that came in the previous 1.5 update. Correction, it’s Deals that is new in 1.5.1.
@ Jagg: Try clearing down Application Data and also uninstall/reinstall. I find both Notifications and Chat very intermittent. Rarely does it notify me that someone is wanting to talk to me.
There is also really annoyingly no way to control Push Notifications (when it’s working), they’re just on. I have to literally logout of the Facebook App to stop them. Killing the App using a Task Manager doesn’t stop them. Why they’ve not add a Settings option (to go alongside the Messaging etc…) ones, I’ve no idea.
@bradavon Did that already… I don’t mean the status bar notifications… I mean the notifications IN THE APP (when you are at the home site of facebook app… the bottom notification line)

@ Jagg: Oh that is weird. I’ve never/seen of that before. Sorry I cannot be any more help.
Have they added landscape support to the main menu? Portrait-only is a pain on the Dell Streak.
Just checked. Still no landscape support. Disappointing.
