If you’ve gotten a bit tired of the usual wait for Android updates and are a bit more technically minded why not get your Desire running Gingerbread now.
I’ve been using a great custom ROM for about a month now and have been enjoying the new features that 2.3 has to offer. Those who can’t live without Sense need not apply as it’s a Vanilla ROM however the main benefit of this is it’s blazing speed. Boot times, app loading and general snappiness are significantly quicker than stock Desire ROMS.
The usual disclaimers apply, anything you attempt is at your own risk and you could potentially brick your phone but if you know what you’re doing it’s fairly straightforward.

Been using this since before Christmas, started with rc4. Decided to do without sense and its inherent bloatware. Very glad I made the change!
Does HTC’s Friendstream still work? I’d miss that, if not.
There are currently no Gingerbread devices sporting Sense, so no. But there are plenty other widgets that do just as good a job (if not better). IMO, Sense is for iPhone users who don’t like to think too much.
It doesn’t come with any HTC apps at all so no joy.
