HTC have come clean and admitted on their Facebook page they won’t be porting Android 2.3 ‘Gingerbread’ to the Desire, stating it doesn’t have the memory to cope with Gingerbread as well as their sense overlay.
Not good news at all for owners of the original Desire, and there are a lot of you out there!
Not much I can add to this gloomy post, sorry folks.
Screen grab from HTC’s Facebook page:
I’m glad I rooted months ago and have been running Gingerbread in all it’s forms ever since! The desire will be the last HTC Sense phone I ever buy. Pure Google from now on. Nexus 3 better hurry up!
huh, LeeDroid seems to manage it ok – bit confused.
Shame really, but at least users won’t be missing anything major. Wish they’d announced it sooner, I held off for months rooting my phone to put a custom ROM on in the hope they’d give us the update, before giving up waiting last weekend.
I don’t really see the

…so much fragmentation 🙁
Cyanogen here I come!
as aldredd did I put the LeeDroid rom on my wife’s phone two months ago – works brilliantly!
Well HTC are a joke, take a look at the forums at XDA, you will see people make roms with gingerbread and sense, and even sense 3.0 feutures. i am running one rom from baad and its runs better than the sensation i tried today. fuck off HTC, get some people in the company that knows what they are doing !

Sigh :/
please no, i have waited for 2.3 since i got my desire, Every day i have been tryin, if there´s no update. But now this fucking new? FUCK you HTC stupid motherfucking noobs. I will probably root my phone to 2.3. HTC go fuck yourself with your fuckin SENSE.
Utterly pathetic. HTC just seem to blowing so hot and cold recently. First they scored points on their bootloader u-turn and now this.
I feel a post coming on!
Having got the Desire in May 2010, and having used HTC phones since 2005 (Orange C500, MDA Vario 1, 2 and 3, Desire) having recommended HTC phones to family and friends. I will never get another HTC phone. I would have felt better, if they had not told the public that the desire would be getting the upgrade. So an update on the 1st August 2010 (to 2.2 Froyo) is the only upgrade my Desire will get. What a joke of a company. 21months without an upgrade for the (at the time) top of the range handset.

I’d rather they just admitted it to be honest than do a half-assed job and release an update that eats up all the memory.
Just root your phone. Trust me, you won’t look back. Cyanogen FTW 🙂

Looks like they’ve changed their minds. This just posted on the HTC UK Facebook site:
“Contrary to what we said earlier, we are going to bring Gingerbread to HTC Desire.”
Looks like they have had a turnaround. Check it out here …

Why are you guys still angry – HTC have reversed their decision – for goodness sakes keep up boys!
Well well, for the second time in as many weeks HTC seem to have changed their mind. 2.3 IS now coming to the Desire!?!

New post added thanks.
Having said yesterday that HTC are a joke of a company, I do still feel that since they lied to the public and having been lied to, some of the trust has gone. After the initial anger in my post, HTC will have to release a much better phone to have my business again
