Motorola have just confirmed that Android 3.1 will shortly be available to Xoom owners. An OTA (Over The Air) update is now rolling out and, good news, it’ll activate the SD card slot to give you up to 64GB of storage capacity.
Other improvements contained within 3.1 include..
Resizable home screen widgets which can be expanded horizontally and/or vertically to include more content.
Picture transfer directly from camera, so users can connect their cameras over USB and import their pictures to the Gallery with a single touch
Improved multi-tasking providing instant visual access to a larger number of applications

otorola has announced the availability of Android™ 3.1 for Motorola XOOM™ in the UK – the over the air update is now rolling out. The update provides exciting enhancements to enable users to get more from their Motorola XOOM and makes it even easier to create a PC-like environment for business users.
Together with the 3.1 update, Motorola is activating the SD card slot. This gives users more flexibility in managing storage and the ability to expand the memory of their Motorola XOOM up to 64GB with the addition of a 32GB SD card.
Key highlights for Android 3.1 include:
· Improved multi-tasking providing instant visual access to a larger number of applications
· Resizable home screen widgets which can be expanded horizontally and/or vertically to include more content,
· Both keyboard and mouse support, which allows simultaneous input for devices over USB and/or Bluetooth® (in any combination)
· Picture transfer directly from camera, so users can connect their cameras over USB and import their pictures to the Gallery with a single touch
· Support for most PC joysticks and gamepads that connect over USB or Bluetooth
· New high-performance Wi-Fi lock lets applications maintain high-performance Wi-Fi connections even when the device screen is off
· Preloaded Adobe® Flash® Player, as well as File Manager.
Motorola XOOM is available through the following retailers: Amazon, Best Buy, Carphone Warehouse, Comet, Currys, Dixons, John Lewis and PC World.
Still no update and there’s a growing number of upset people on the Xoom owners forum.
The update has just arrived – downloading it now.
Well, that was painless. Took a few minutes to download and around five minutes to install and restart.
Everything seems fine so far – SD card access is working well and I can now download from the market over an enterprise network (which was impossible before the update).
It does seem a little bit snappier when starting apps and while navigating through various menus etc…
(I’ll see if there’s any change in speed after it’s been switched on for a few hours).
So basically, it works like it should have done on release. Overall, it’s a nice thing to use – now we need more tablet specific apps…
