We’re assuming that the major HTC announcement coming this afternoon is this, a deal between HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre. Estimated to be worth around $300 million will help to “create superior mobile audio experiences”.
We assume that this will mean the end of tinny and weedy speakers and a more involving sound experience..

HTC AND BEATS BY DR. DRE SET TO
INTRODUCE NEW ERA IN MOBILE AUDIO
Strategic HTC investment to result in Beats integrated HTC phones this Fall
Taoyuan, Taiwan & Santa Monica, CA – August 11, 2011 – HTC Corporation, a global designer of mobile devices, today announced a strategic partnership and investment with Beats™ Electronics LLC, the company redefining the audio market with its iconic Beats by Dr. Dre™ audio experience. The two fast-growing brands will focus on bringing high performance sound to HTC phones.
“The HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre partnership is an opportunity for two world-class companies to redefine the smart phone industry and define the future,”
said Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Beats by Dr. Dre and Chairman and CEO of Interscope Geffen A&M Records which is a division of Universal Music Group and a stakeholder in Beats. “For Beats by Dr. Dre, this represents a critical step in our continued mission to clean up the destruction of audio caused by the digital revolution; and reengineer how sound is delivered so that the consumer feels the music the way that the artist intended.”
HTC® and Beats™ have been working together to create superior mobile audio experiences for consumers, which will result in a line of HTC devices integrated with Beats sound innovations, available this fall.
“Beats has found a unique way to harness popular culture in a manner that is unlike any other brand today,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “It’s an exciting brand that has been built around providing something very special, and we believe our strategic partnership will provide customers with unbeatable sound on HTC phones. We obsess over every detail of a consumer’s mobile experience and audio is a critical part of that experience.”
HTC is known for unifying content, services and devices into unique mobile experiences. And Beats is known for its unique consumer brand appeal and ability to reproduce the full spectrum of sound captured in professional recording studios, allowing consumers to hear music the way the artist intended. Bringing these two great brands together will create superior mobile music and sound experiences, while accelerating HTC’s entry into the youth and accessories markets globally.
Beats Electronics will continue to operate autonomously with Iovine as Chairman and Luke Wood as President & COO with its current business partnerships that include Monster Cable Products Inc., Hewlett-Packard and Chrysler Group LLC. Iovine will also continue serving as Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records.
“Our customers have clearly responded to Beats and HTC, and Best Buy is proud to feature their products in our stores,” said Brian J. Dunn, CEO, Best Buy. “We are committed to offering innovative and entertaining technologies that help consumers enhance their lives. Our customers expect that from us. The unique HTC Sense experience and the great sound of Beats provide prime examples of that focus.”
A whole $300?! Wow…
Seriously, it’s a nice touch but what they really, really need are better camera sensors. I love my incredible S but in low light, the camera is beyond awful
Woops. Thanks for that mate. Sorted.
If this IS the “major announcement” then quite frankly it sucks in the league of ‘major announcements’.
I’ve never heard of “Beats” – at least not here in the UK.. Perhaps I’m not cool 🙁
if this means that htc are going to be making it easier for the w*&^%ers who broadcast their crap music on trains and in the street, i’m be making my next phone a samsung after 5 htc’s in a row!
A very imature statement!
I HAVE heard of Beats. I beleive it is a subsidiary brand of Monster Cables, and they are supposed to be pretty good.
However, what does this mean for HTC? I would guess that they won’t be bundling Beats headphones with the handsets, as this would mean a huge price increase. Also, headphones can only ever be as good as the source. And my Desire HD has such a piss poor low level output when listening to music, that these will not help.
So what’s the deal? Hardware and/or software enhancements to improve the music capabilities of their phone?
Ooooh this sorta makes the HP/Palm TouchPad look less exclusive now doesn’t it? Doesn’t the HP TouchPad have Beats audio?
I’m sorta less convinced about Beats. Do they actually design their own audio processors or do they just rebrand or “certify” them?
woopy doo….. Ok I use my phone for mp3 so if it makes it better then great as long as they improve their cameras and video audio quality along with this the fantastic, My htc sensation has the best camera htc have brought out but the Nokia I had 5yrs ago was better, i love my htc stuff and have had them all from the hero and will most likely stick with them but they need to catch up in other area too not just sound.
The announcement maybe the new HTC Windows Phone with the 12MP camera which has been floating about. Nokia are due to launch their phone on the 17th of August. So I don’t think that HTC would be too happy about Nokia pipping them to the post.
Or the first phone to have Beats Audio?
On this days, i think music has a perfect sound effects. This new era in mobile phone will surely change the world of music in our mobile and also to our life.
