There’s probably a fair few of you who are already familiar with this, but for those of you who’ve not tried it yet, this BBC video shows you how to create a mobile hotspot. Put simply this turns your phone into a WiFi Access Point (AP) which connects to the internet via your mobile network. It’s ideal if you’ve got your laptop in the car and you want to quickly connect to the web and get some work done.
On Android it’s pretty simple. Just go to Settings, Wireless & Network, then “Tethering and Portable Hotspot”. Don’t forget to setup some security and watch how much data you download, because it’ll come out of your mobile data plan. Once done you can fire up your laptop and connect to your own portable hotspot.
