Today we noticed some serious speed issues and drop-outs on the site. It is, as with a number of connectivity issues nowadays, due to a fibre-optic cable being cut.
Usually fibre failures are due to thieves assuming that it’s copper cable and want it for the ever increasing scrap metal value, however this problem appears to be due to a wayward digger.
Traffic is currently being routed through backup connections, however engineers have admitted to us that “changing to redundant connections has caused less than optimal routing and partially higher latency”.
Hopefully this situation will be resolved tomorrow morning. We’re currently getting an ETA of 3AM BST.
