Samsung UK recently tweeted that the Samsung Galaxy S2 would definitely be getting an upgrade to the next version of Android. As usual no specific dates, so we just have to sit and wait. Hopefully it will be slightly more organised than the upgrade to Gingerbread for the original Samsung Galaxy S.
Their tweet was in reply to a few people who have been asking about the update. The reply was “Hi, good news – the Galaxy S II wil be receiving ICS, but there are no dates confirmed as yet. We will kepp you posted”.
So good news but vague news. I am not sure how long I will last before I root mine and flash something nice (looking at you cm9!). How about you guys, do you own one? Are you going to wait for the stock update or flash something sooner?

My guess, it won’t be this side of Christmas.
Give the Galaxy Nexus time to bed-in. Once it has ICS it’ll be the one to beat again. It’s only a little smaller than the Galaxy Nexus and is only let down by the much lower resolution than that phone.
By then we’ll likely be seeing the Galaxy S3 though, probably Quad Core.
By which point most will have moved on. Fingers crossed it’s not too long a wait.

I have already added an ICS theme for cm7 on myGS2, so I will wait for a stable enough release candidate for cm9.
