The Android Market has hit a new milestone of achieving 400,000 active applications, reports Distimo. It is still playing catchup to the Apple App Store but it is certainly gaining pace and I imagine will continue to do so – there’s only so many apps that can be written surely, so critical mass must get to a point where both stores have a very close number of apps available…? It seems clear to me though that apps are largely released for iOS first, I wonder how long it will be (if ever?) that apps are developed and released simultaneously for both platforms. Worth mentioning that the Windows Marketplace has just over 50,000 apps although Microsoft consistently state that it’s about “quality over quantity”.
