Over at Android Developers, some interesting numbers have come to light.
Do we all know what Android OS we’re running on our devices, and do we care?
It would appear that more than half the worlds Android devices (54.9% to be precise) are TWO full generations of the OS behind the current release. Is this the same as having Windows 7 on your PC and your mate having Windows 98?
Probably not as drastic, but it does show the exceptionally fast pace of Android OS development based on our accelerated needs and device developments of late. It does beg the question as to how Android expects to offer support for an ever growing legacy device estate…. what will we do with all our old Android handsets in the future?

or rather 96.1% are 2 or more generations behind or 99.4% are not on the latest release.
Ridiculous comment in the original article; Phones never ran Honeycomb and barely any manufacturers are running ICS or have released updates to it.
Pointless ‘shocking’ statistic is shockingly pointless.
