Sony have today announced the Xperia Sola which is in addition to those announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona just a few weeks go. We have had the full press release and images through just now to share with you. The Xperia Sola is the Pepper we saw yesterday. It has a 3.7″ Reality Display (854 x 480 pixels) with BRAVIA engine, 5 megapixel camera with auto focus (plus fast capture and HD video recording @ 720p) and is powered by a dual-core 1GHz CPU.
It’s due to launch in the summer and, like the other Xperia NXT handsets, will launch with Android 2.3 but will upgrade to ICS / 4.0 shortly after. Other specs include an FM radio with RDS, 3.5mm audio, 8GB on board and a microSD expansion slot. There’s the usual WiFi, DLNA, GPS and Bluetooth.
We’re not entirely sure why this particular handset has a different non-letter naming convention..

Making its smartphone debut exclusively on Xperia sola, Sony’s unique floating touch lets consumers
navigate the web by hovering their finger above the screen so it acts like a moving curser, without
actually having to touch the screen. Once the desired link is found it can be highlighted and a simple tap
will load the page. Floating touch will evolve with new user functionality and applications through software
updates and engagement with developers.
