According to the Sony Xperia Official product blog Ice cream sandwich is on its way to the 2011 Xperia range from mid-April.
The post goes on to say that the first Xperia models to receive the upgrade will be Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray. For these first models, the rollout will start mid-April and continue over 4-6 weeks.
This will NOT be an OTA upgrade and as such users will have to make a conscious decision to upgrade, being able to do so via Sony’s PC Companion or Bridge for the Mac.
The all new Xperia S however will have to wait till the latter part of quarter 2 for its Ice Cream Sandwich experience.
I feel that this is good support for the last of the Sony Ericsson models however should Sony have made more of an effort to get ICS on the all singing, all dancing flagship Xperia S earlier?
Seeing what doesn’t work on ICS, actually I think its probably right not to release it for the Xperia S yet, although doing it for the old range first is odd granted!
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is only installed on 2.9% of all Android devices, according to a recent Android distribution chart from Google… says it all really…
