The WSJ and The Verge are reporting that Google will open up the Nexus program to 5 manufacturers’ this Autumn, allowing each to build a Nexus device which Google will then sell directly. This news comes amidst growing concern regarding the possibility of Motorola being given preferential treatment. If Google does go the multiple OEM route that would certainly assuage those complaints.
The knock-on effect for consumers would not only be a bigger choice of “Pure Google” devices but also that each of these OEM’s will be given early access to the next version of Android which could, in theory, result in a faster rollout to non-nexus devices.
We’ll keep you updated with any developments. In the meantime, we would love to hear from you in our forums on which manufacturers you would like to see build Nexus devices and what features you’d like in this thread complete with poll.
question is, will they be 5 different specced devices or simply the same device built at different factories??? Don’t think i like the idea of 5 different “nexus” phones, there should be one Nexus which is the pure android device.
