This one is a little tricky to show, but the Samsung Galaxy SIII has a feature called “SmartStay”. I actually found this to be disabled out of the box, but after turning on it uses the front-facing 1.9 megapixel camera to see if you’re looking at the screen. If you are, it’ll stop the screen going off – a simple but obvious feature which ideally I’d like to see on other phones too.
In use it sometimes missed my eyes, especially in low light, but here’s a video of it in action next to the Samsung Galaxy SII. We also noticed a distinct difference in the screen brightness on the SIII when compared to the SII. Although I didn’t know it at the time, there is a reason for this which I’ll tell you more about tomorrow. 🙂
