It might be raining, but I can charge my phone and keep dry

With the British summer becoming a bit of a wash-out, Vodafone have stepped up with a solution. It’s an umbrella.

Sure, we’ve seen umbrellas before. I’ve got a collection of broken ones in the boot of my car, but none of those will act as a high-gain antenna and repeater whilst charging my phone. Kenneth Tong, pictured, has been working on the Vodafone Booster Brolly to offer a “signal shower” to damp Brits and festival-goers this summer.

A hand-sewn canopy contains two-volt panels powering a battery which then in turn charges a mobile or operates a torch so that you can find your tent in the dark.

Meanwhile, I’m keeping everything crossed that we’re going to see some sunshine instead. 🙂
