Another day, another popular app iOS app being acquired. Today it’s the turn of Boxcar, the push notification app that became popular a few years ago as a central notification app, before the days of notification centre. The service was most commonly used as a supplement to apps that didn’t have their own push notification services, such as 3rd party Twitter, Facebook and Email clients (most recently Sparrow).
Boxcar has been bought by Kwaga, owners of cloud address book service writethat.name. No figures have been revealed and it seems both services will be sticking around, at least for the time being.
Heres what Kwaga had to say on the acquisition.
Dear Boxcar user,
Our team at Kwaga is very excited about the addition of the Boxcar.io service to WriteThat.name, our cloud application that keeps the contacts in your address book 100% up-to-date.
Over the next few months we will be dedicated to significantly improving the Boxcar system in full collaboration with their team, taking care of both technical and customer service issues; so, please do share your questions and suggestions at your new Boxcar Support Hub…
…We look forward to the great developments ahead and are glad to have you on board!
