It has been confirmed that the 2011 range of Sony handsets including the Xperia Arc S will not be getting Android 4.1 otherwise known as Jellybean.
In an unsurprising move after their hesitation in upgrading to Ice Cream Sandwich, it was confirmed on Facebook by the UK Product Manager for Sony Mobile, John Cooper who was hosting a Q&A session on Facebook earlier and was asked if the Arc S would get Android 4.1. As you can see from the image below the answer was a resounding “no.”
The likelihood is that if the top of the range handset is not being upgraded then those handsets below it in the range will also not see an upgrade.
HTC and Samsung have already confirmed upgrades to their flagship handsets and the signs are that Sony’s 2012 range will also be upgraded although no firm release dates have been announced.
No surprise here, I would suggest it will just be their new NXT phones that are upgraded.
Apart from the Play, it will mean all their phones will be on 4.0 or 4.1 that were launched since start of 2011, which is good enough.
