Nokia City Lens is another of those Lumia specific apps, this time round it is a augmented reality type thing, where you can hold your camera up and it will show what is around you. City Lens has been around for a few weeks in beta form and now it has appeared in the Marketplace for all to try out. Here is the Marketplace info about Nokia City Lens:
Nokia City Lens gives you an entirely new way to reveal what’s around you using you Lumia phone’s camera display. Simply hold up your phone as though taking a photo, and Nokia City Lens overlays the best shops, restaurants and point of interest right on your display. Tap a place icon to call ahead or get more information such as opening hours, reviews and directions. You can even save a place for or share it with friends. Tilt your phone and Nokia City Lens brings up additional view options like list or map view. No more wandering around for a cafe. No more looking for street signs. With Nokia City Lens, you see what’s around you from your point of view, so finding something great never felt more natural.
Getting screenshots of the app is virtually impossible so I just used a camera instead.
It is a nice useful app combined with local scout on your Windows Phone you can really find things to do wherever you are. It is also nice to see Nokia continuing to develop apps for the WP7 platform. It makes my Lumia 800 feel a little less redundant.
As usual with these new apps you can’t search for them, you can’t view them on a desktop and remote install them and the only way is by clicking a link. Here is the link to the Marketplace (only if you have a Lumia) or you can scan the QR code below (thanks to WP Central for creating that)
