Motorola are holding an event this afternoon as well and the first person on stage was Google CEO Eric Schmidt. He gave us information on the current Android figures. In what has traditionally been Andy Rubins territory, Schmidt told us that there are now 1.3m Android devices activated on a daily basis and ~70,000 of those are tablets. Sadly he didn’t go into any more detail but we have to assume the Nexus 7 is playing a big part in that. He did however admit that Google “were late to tablets”.
Android Tablets have never sold as well as the market leading iPad and this confirms thats still the case. At last count, Apple was selling iPads at a rate of ~182,000 a day but Android clearly has the advantage in phone sales as Apple is currently managing “only” 288,888 a day.
