OK, firstly I want to say that I and the team at Coolsmartphone have a fairly well rounded respect for mobile platforms other than the one we currently use (and we do all use different phones!)
I have a lot of time for Windows Phone, and have eagerly awaited news of the next gen hardware.
Even with the faked video and the alleged faked photo samples, I expect the Nokia Lumia 920 to be a great camera phone.
I was very disappointed to learn, then, that the 920 records audio in MONO when recording video. I’m not an expert in videography, but this seems like a backward step, particularly when the Nokia 808 records in stereo. So does the iPhone 4S, the HTC One X and the Galaxy S3. Even the iPhone 4 does.
This has been confirmed by Damian Danning (Nokia’s ‘camera guru’) on Twitter (@phonedaz) – tweet pictured below.
I’ve reached out to Damian to ask why Nokia came to this decision, and will update this post if we receive a reply.
What do you think? Is Mono recording a deal breaker, or even important to you? Let us know in the forums or comments below.

I was also shocked to hear the video is also not in stereo. What were they thinking?
Mono recording on a mobile device makes a lot more sense than stereo. I cant stand when I watch a video recorded on a phone and the audio only comes out of one speaker. Audio is much more difficult to capture properly. The decision to use stereo recording on a phone is bad imo.
Nokia made the right decision.
I don’t understand the tag for the story ‘More bad news’…… Like Raygun this make a lot of sense and in all reality, who in earth would actually notice????
Well it will still probably be better than the audio on HTC one X. And the sensation video audio was rubbish only a tad better on mono. If you get good results from mono then no need to complain.
Seriously? Mono video on a phone is a big deal? Seriously? How many mobile phone videos get streamed in HD to millions of homes? None. This post is just stupid.
