Apple has just announced at their ongoing press event that iOS 6 will be will be rolled out to customers on the 19th of September. We assume a GM seed will be given to developers a little before then to allow them to make adjustments for apps before the iPhone 5 is released on the 21st.
iOS 6 will be available on the following devices
- iPhone 3GS,
- iPhone 4,
- iPhone 4S,
- iPad 2
- New iPad
- iPod Touch 4th Gen
- Apple TV 2nd Gen
- Apple TV 3rd Gen
That certainly puts MS in the picture with WP8 rumours as to whether or not it’ll be finished in time for 29th October, or will that be delayed and we’re looking at a later release date?
Software projects are complex but project management isn’t rocket science. Apple seem to have got it right (regardless or actual or perceived software complexities) and, to boot, sorted the marketing. I feel sorry for Nokia, but full praise to Apple for the software side as the hardware side is only an iteration of an existing product.
