After wide scale criticism of the iOS maps application, 9to5Mac is reporting that Google may have already submitted a Google Maps application to the app store.
If true, the only question that remains is whether Apple will approve it.
The ‘duplicating existing functionality’ clause really won’t wash anymore. There are plenty of web browsers, music players, and email clients in the app store.
It would seem unlikely Apple would want to approve the app, but there would certainly be a backlash if it were to be kept from iOS users.
Choice is, after all, best for consumers, and Apple should have confidence in their own offerings.
