We’ve long wondered what sort of sales numbers the Nexus 7 has been achieving and now we have our answer. Sort of.
Asustek CFO David Chang told the Wall Street Journal
“At the beginning, it was, for instance, 500K units a month, then maybe 600, 700K. This latest month, it was close to 1 million,”
This explains Google’s desire to expand the product line, introducing the Nexus 10 and 3g and 32gb versions of the Nexus 7 on Monday. With the Nexus 7’s cheap entry point and availability both online and in major retailers the christmas shopping season should be a good one for Android tablets.
For those who like comparisons, 14 million iPads were sold in the period since the Nexus 7 has been available. It’ll be interesting to see how the iPad mini performs.
Hopefully at some point we’ll get exact sales figures but just now, this is the best we have.
