Tim Cook was interviewed this week by NBC Rock Center and had some interesting things to say. H announced that some Mac manufacturing would be moving back to the US but the most interesting comment came when he was asked about Apple TV, a product Apple has said in the past they consider a “hobby”.
Tim Cook said:
“When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years, It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.”
Pundits have been predicting the launch of an Apple TV set for years and of course Apple has already sold millions of little black boxes. The question is will Apple go all out on a TV? Or will they launch a standalone companion product? They could of course allow apps to be run on the existing Apple TV boxes as they already run a version of iOS. 2013 looks like it’ll be an interesting year
I think an Apple TV is a step too far. A top of the range (50″) Panasonic or Samsung TV is £1800+ I can imagine a 50″ Apple TV would be ~£2500. People can stump up £500 for an iPad / iPhone, maybe ~£1000 for a laptop, but over £2k for a tv just cos it looks snazzy and has the apple logo on it. Nah, can’t see it.
