If you just saw the exciting news that WhatsApp is now available on Windows Phone 8, now for some not so exciting news and that is it looks like WhatsApp will not be coming to BlackBerry 10 OS which launches around the world on January 30th 2013.
This is the plan anyway as confirmed over on CrackBerry to a good friend and podcaster James Richardson who is one of the biggest BlackBerry promoters I have seen in a long time.
When James asked the developer if BB10 was getting WhatsApp this was the reply he got:
“We have no plans to support BlackBerry 10 at the moment, sorry.”
The only good part about this news is the ‘at the moment’ ending of the message which could lead to suggest if the OS takes off and gains a lot of users then a decision can be made later on if needed.
However if there is no WhatsApp on BB10 this will leave a BIG hole in the instant messaging arena with millions of users preferring the BlackBerry platform due to really well designed keyboards.
I tried using a BlackBerry again recently and WhatsApp was the first app which was installed on it to keep in touch with everyone and if this is not on BB10 I will have to seriously reconsider checking out their new offering next year

I’m not a BB user, but I’m done with Whatsapp. Their lazy and uninspired development team has rejected the thought of working on Wifi-only tablets, a growing share of the market. Not to mention they are slow to adapt to anything. Facebook’s recent news to allow non-members use FB Messenger is welcomed with open arms. I hope Zuck crushes them with one swoop!
Whatsapp is just garbage bloatware. End of discussion A smart company which they are not, would use their resources to support ALL platforms..
Hardly surprising, it’s not even out yet. Most companies don’t support products that don’t exist :-D.
