Top of the tree, this is the Idol X and Idol Ultra from Alcatel. I’ve gotta be honest, the Idol X is easily the best handset I’ve seen from the company in a long time. The One Touch Idol X is painfully thin at just 67.5mm thick and comes out in July 2013. As you’ll see below, it’s available in a range of funky colours too.
The screen is a 5″ IPS (full HD) at 1080×1920 with Dragontail Glass, Oleophobic coating and an 8 megapixel camera, although there’ll be a 13 megapixel model available in “selected markets”. The front camera is 2.1 megapixel and both do full 1080p HD video recording.
It’s powered by Android Jelly Bean 4.1 with a quad-core 1.5GHz CPU and again, there’s a dual-SIM version to come. There’s a 2000 mAh battery and 3.5mm audio port.
The slightly thicker Idol Ultra (which is 68.5mm thick) has a smaller screen – 4.7″ and it’s 720p (720×1280 pixels) AMOLED. Although the camera is still 8 megapixel the front one drops down to 1.3 megapixe;s and this one has a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU. The usual WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS goodies still apply and the battery here is 1800mAh.
