Virgin media, the MVNO that runs on EE’s network infrastructure, have today announce a new tariff that looks designed to take on the big boys in their own back yard.
The tariff, aptly called the VIP, looks to be an excellent deal as it offers unlimited everything.
Yes, that is everything, including calls to 0870, 0845, 0808 numbers. You can call an 0800 number too, and there’ll be no charge. Texts are included too, as is data.
Even better is the price.
For non Virgin Media customers the new tariff will cost you £31 per month with selected handsets whilst if you are already a customer you will get a £5 per month discount thus bringing the cost to £26 per month.
The deal is also available as a SIM only option costing just £15 per month. Yes, that is fifteen pounds. That is better than any other SIM only deal currently on the market. By the looks of it, this VIP SIM only plan is available to all – whether you’ve got Virgin already or not.
Graeme Oxby, Executive Director, Mobile & Home Phone at Virgin Media said:
“We’re delighted to offer our customers these exclusive and unbeatable offers they can’t get anywhere else. We’ve built VIP to be the ultimate worry-free monthly tariff, with unlimited calls to many 08 numbers as well as inclusive insurance with 24 hour handset replacement for Virgin Media customers. In fact we’re so confident in our VIP pay monthly tariff if customers can find a better tariff out there, we challenge them to take it!
We wanted to create the best SIM Only deal out there and with unlimited data, texts and minutes for just £15 per month on a flexible 30 day contract, we believe we’ve done just that. If you’re holding onto an old handset you love, or if you want to buy the latest smart phone without being tied in to a long contract, our SIM Only deals are well worth a look.”

Tethering included?
unfortunately not.
Speed also reduced if you go over 3.5GB in a monthly cycle (until next cycle only)
Thems are good prices.
Tethering is a sticky issue, I have a Virgin sim-only deal, being a tight wad it is only the £7pm one and does me just fine, 500meg o data is enough as I only use it on my commute to work to check train times and the like. But…..I do tether so my tablet has net access for the odd game and emails. Now, from reading the giff-gaff forums it seems that the operators only know if you are tethering due to something in the data passed by the web browsers (don’t quote me it was a while ago I read it). So, if you tether to a tablet you will be OK as you are still using mobile apps and not desktop / laptop.
Of course, this could all go horribly wrong and Virgin could well write me a nasty letter and demand a kidney!
Wow, this is very tempting indeed, being a Virgin customer already (for my TV, landline, broadband, etc). It’s rather a shame about the tethering thing though, as it’s the sort of thing I like the freedom to be able to use, even though I do not use it often.
I’m wondering whether they’d tolerate light use – if the speed is reduced after 3.5GB (seems reasonable enough), I don’t really see what difference it makes to them.
Saying that, I do have a natty little MiFi device with a prepaid 3 SIM I use for heavier data situations, so I could always whip that out if necessary… Again, tempting.
Isn’t it throttled as well?
Got this deal. Really wish you would confirm these posts. Just made a 0845 call £8.05 cost so no to free 0845 calls.
