You know that moment when a buzzword is adopted by more than just a few people and it “sticks”? Well, that moment appears to have happened for phablets. They’re too big to be phones and a little too small to be called tablets, so “phablets” is juuuuussst right.
No-one seemed to like my “Tablones” idea then. Pah.
EXPANSYS LAUNCHES ‘PHABLET’ CATEGORY
Leading the way for Smartphone-Tablets with 6-inch or smaller screens
Expansys.com, the global online technology superstore, has introduced a new ‘Phablet’ category to its UK website.
Since 2011 we have been witnessing a rise in a specific category of Tablets with screen sizes of 6-inches or smaller. These devices are designed to combine the best features and functionality of both Smartphones and Tablets in a single device, providing users with an unparalleled multimedia viewing experience, as well as efficient multi-tasking capabilities.
Anthony Catterson, CEO of EXPANSYS said, “EXPANSYS is committed to providing our customers with the best of the latest and emerging consumer technology. We know our customers are interested in ‘Phablets’ so we’re excited to launch a dedicated new category.”
According to a survey by Barclays, projected annual ‘Phablet’ sales will reach an incredible 402 million by 2015, up dramatically on the 84m units shipped last year.
“EXPANSYS’ finger is always on the pulse of emerging products and trends in global consumer electronics categories,” continued Catterson. “Introducing a new ‘Phablet’ category is a natural evolution delivering even more choice for EXPANSYS customers’ broad range of needs.”
Since 2011 and the launch of the first Galaxy Note, (considered one of the first ‘Phablets’ on the market), the devices have been taking a greater share of overall device sales. Furthermore, with the introduction of a slew of fresh new devices such as the 6.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Mega, ZTE Grand Memo and the Huawei Ascend Mate, the ‘Phablet’ category is becoming firmly established in consumers’ and business-users’ minds. EXPANSYS’ CEO says, “we think the ‘Phablet’ category is here to stay.”
