During the Huawei Ascend P6 event last week Richard Yu the CEO of Huawei said that there wasn’t a reason to make a Google Edition of the P6 as Emotion UI was good enough. Well in a recent interview Kevin Ho, the president of the handset product division at Huawei, has come out and said that they are working with Google to bring one to market.
“We are working with Google to analyse the possibility of bringing out a Huawei Ascend P6 with Google Edition,”
I personally think one of three things is going on here.
Scenario one
Huawei are actually in talks with Google about bringing a Google Edition Ascend P6 to market and it’s just that
Scenario two
Huawei are not actually in talks with Google and their just cashing in on the excitement about Google Edition devices over the last few days.
Scenario three
The CEO and the president of the handset product division don’t actually talk to each other or even bother listening to what the other has publicly said. How can they say exactly the opposite only about a week apart. Maybe Huawei have changed their minds.
I’m not sure which is the real scenario but if Google are approaching manufacturers and are encouraging them to make Google Edition devices we might see less and less skins on devices in future. Not that we’ll probably get the Google Edition in the UK.
