Boxee. You may not have heard too much about them, but in this world of internet-connected TV, you can a grab yourself a D-Link Boxee box, stick it under your TV and – boom – you’re watching the TV you want when you want.
Movies, TV and videos streamed from the internet. YouTube, MTV, all those on-demand shows from the BBC and more. Your media library splodged all over your TV, direct from your network. Apps too, plus there’s a remote or, if you want, you can download a smartphone app to control it.
Well now, it seems that Samsung have just handed over a wad of cash and bought them. A statement reads….
Samsung has acquired key talent and assets from Boxee. This will help us continue to improve the overall user experience across our connected devices.
Samsung are keeping the 40 employees on. Oh, by the way, if you want one they’re just £99.98 from Amazon.
Interesting. It seems D-Link had stopped supporting Boxee, so Sammy will give Boxee the cash to further develop the Boxee software, which it needs. I might get one now.
