I’ve just read the email about this and have instantly transported back to 2003, when someone developed a text editor app for Microsoft Smartphone 2002 and we all thought that it was the most amazing … thing…..ever.
Now the new Firefox OS (which you lovely Coolsmartphone readers will have no doubt seen us cover here) has a text editor too. If you’ve got a ZTE Open then you can grab this from the Firefox Marketplace and start editing HTML, source code and text files using the Tamoggemon Text Editor.
The app has adjustable rendering, a tabbed UI and an automatica backup system so you don’t lose your work. It’s still in beta but it’s free, so for the 14 people reading this with a Firefox phone (said with love people, said with love), you can grab it here.
Edit files with your FireFox OS phone – thanks to Tamoggemon
A text editor is among the most fundamental apps needed in order to use
a smartphone effectively – for some reason, FirefoxOS does not include
one. As so often, Tamoggemon saves the day with its Text Editor for
FirefoxOS.
Our product is likely to be the first-ever tab-based text editor for
mobile phones running FirefoxOS. Simultaneously open as many files as
you need – the browser-like interface makes sure that you always stay on
top of your editing.
The text rendering engine is based on the one used to power Tamoggemon’s
now-legendary tIRC client for Palm OS. It permits the flexible
configuration of the display – programmers can even disable the line
wrapping.
Finally, an automatic backup feature protects you from inadvertent or
unintended editing. In short, Text Editor is the one and only text
editor any FirefoxOS user will ever need.
Tam Hanna, CEO of Tamoggemon Holding k.s., states the following:
“For Tamoggemon Holding k.s., it was always of paramount importance to
be on top of technology trends. We are very proud to be among the first
companies to release an application for FireFOX OS, which will be
tremendously successful in markets currently underserved by the more
established competitors like Android.”
As Firefox OS applications can not be monetized as of this writing, the
product will initially be released as a free beta version. The current
one, set to expire on the August this year, can be downloaded from the
official marketplace:
