Google released the Chromecast in the US back in July where it has been rather well received and as such it is a point of consternation that it cannot be obtained worldwide direct from Google.
That however could be about to change, at least here in the UK, a move which could be signalled by the release of the Chromecast app in the UK Google Play store.
The app, described by Google:
Chromecast is the easiest way to enjoy online video and anything from the web on your TV. Plug it into any HDTV and control it with your existing smartphone, tablet, or laptop. No remotes required. Cast your favorites from Google Play, YouTube, Netflix, and Chrome to your TV with the press of a button.

Use the Chromecast app to:
• Set up your Chromecast to work with your Wi-Fi network
• Manage your Chromecast settings (such as changing your device name, Wi-Fi password, etc.)
We know that there is a Google event scheduled in New York for 24th October and although it has been stated that no new hardware will be revealed, could the worldwide rollout of Chromecast be unveiled instead?
Download the Chromecast app free here from Google Play.
