I’ll try and cut this down because, in my humble opinion, these lawsuits are doing my tiny little head in. Samsung and Apple have been fighting in the courts for a while now, but in the US Samsung were found by a jury to be copying Apple. Following the decision a jury then tried to calculate the damages owed by Samsung, but they totally screwed up the amount.
So, ahead of the retrials and arguments that no doubt follow this, they’ve now decided on exactly how much Samsung should pay Apple. It’s $888 million. A $598 million amount wasn’t disputed, but the additional amount of $290 million now gets added on. There’s still a little way to go with all this, but Apple will no doubt be eager to add the millions to their already-heaving pile of cash whilst Samsung, who made a net profit of $7.6 billion in the July-to-September quarter alone, will probably just brush it off and carry on.
