Sony announced a while back that the Z1 and Z Ultra would be getting the upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat early next year and that there would be an intermediate update to JellyBean 4.3. The time for the 4.3 update has now arrived and it is starting to rollout, although when your handset gets it will depend on market and carrier approval.
The update includes:
- Project Butter performance and UI optimisation.
- Smart Social Camera for the Z Ultra – extra camera features like MotionShot
- Updates to standard apps like Smart Connect, MyXperia and TrackID
- Latest security enhancements
- More cloud integration with Sony Entertainment Network for Walkman, Movies and Album apps.
The other interesting point is the launch of Xperia Themes which allow users to create unique custom interfaces using downloadable UI packs from Sony Select. There isn’t any more information than that but it sounds fun, and we will keep you updated when more information is available.

And because I can’t hear the word “rollout” without thinking about Transformers:
