Parrot have really improved their AR Drone and this is the new Bebop flying machine. It comes equipped with a fisheye lens and uses clever software to chop out bits of video to give you a lovely stable image. A controller can work with an Oculus Rift headset, so you get the view from the Bebop straight into your eyeballs. Pretty neat.
As you can see, the controller is essentially a tablet or smartphone with some rather trick control sticks either side.
Hoping to grab the attention of photographers and perhaps the odd film fan, there’s built-in GPS for an incredibly stable flight. This is one that really demands a video, so check out this in-building flight in the WSJ…
I don’t know why, but I want one 😉
The camera is a 14 megapixel unit with an 180 degree field of vision and it’ll pan and tilt while the drone hovers. You connect and control it via WiFi, which means it won’t go too far. However, Parrot are also going to offer something called the “Skycontroller” which whacks up the range to 2 km.
