The £50 smartphone we mentioned earlier was, if you recall, the Smart 4 mini. It’s actually now a little cheaper at £45 and you can get it from Vodafone. The WVGA screen (480×800), dual-core 1.3GHz CPU, 4 GB storage and 3 megapixel rear camera might not set your world alight but.. it’s cheap.
A little further up the ladder is the new bigger brother – the Smart 4. It’s available in black or white for £75 on Pay As You Go. The CPU is actually a little slower – a dual-core 1.2 GHz unit – but there’s Android 4.4 KitKat in here and a 5 megapixel camera with flash at the back. The screen is a 4.5″ FWVGA capacitive unit (no resolution specified) and it has 4 GB of on-board storage. There’s WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and all the usual sensors plus it’ll do HD voice calling.
Basically, for the extra money, you’re getting a phone with a better camera, slightly bigger screen and a newer version of Android.
