Sky (BSkyB) this morning have announced that they will be entering the mobile market in a deal with O2.
The deal should see the Sky network powered by O2 but have no impact on O2 customers allowing Sky to offer Phone, TV, Broadband and now Mobile packages. This is something Sky have no doubt wanted for quite some time. Their main competitor, Virgin Media, already offer packages which include TV, broadband and calls on the Virgin Mobile network.
What impact does this have on the reported sale of O2 to Three we broke earlier? Well, we assume this is an MVNO deal but Sky are quoting it as a “wholesale partnership” in the Sky News coverage...
Sky chief executive Jeremy Darroch stated..
Through our partnership with Telefonica UK, we can build on our expertise in content, innovation and service to launch a range of exciting new services and exploit the opportunities for growth in the fast-changing mobile sector.
