I am a daily Pebble Steel user. Those who regularly follow the site might have read that I love the watch so much that it made me ditch Windows Phone for an iPhone, just so that I could use it properly. I use it for (often surreptitiously) checking notifications, using Runkeeper for jogging, and using the music mode to change tracks and volume whilst commuting. It really has revolutionised how I use my phone. Battery life is great and the Steel version looks quite snazzy too. One thing that does bother me, though, is the smallish screen and large bezel (even if the watch itself is a good size), and the low pixel screen, which makes analogue clock faces look a bit rubbish. In short, I love it but want a newer version.
This is what makes the screenshot above, taken from the homepage of the Pebble website , so exciting. They’re clearly about to release something new tomorrow afternoon, and the rumours circulating online at 9to5Mac suggest that this is an all new, singing and dancing watch. Their source has revealed that the new Pebble watch will have a slightly wider face and a colour e-ink display, but will retain the decent battery life and will not be touch screen. It is also suggested that future watch straps will contain sensors for heart monitoring etc. Finally, the watch is said to contain a new version of the OS, which has been developed by some of the original WebOS folk. All thrilling stuff. It is stated that the price will match the current Pebble Steel cost, so about £150. No comment on availability but hopefully we should know much more tomorrow. I for one cannot wait.
